How was it for you? 2020 in review

Well, it’s that time of year when we look back at the previous 12 months and think about what we’ll do differently. It’s fair to say 2020 has been somewhat challenging. Square Mile has been fortunate to work with lots of great clients, some of whom have weathered the storm relatively unscathed, while others have had to pivot to stay afloat.

This tumultuous year has prompted us to pause and reassess the service we offer you, our valued clients, and consider how we can improve the support we give you going forward. So, now, as well as the everyday accounting services you’d expect, we’re widening our services to include more advisory and consultancy support. It’s all part of a plan to go beyond merely producing accurate accounting data to helping you gain insights from it because that will help you make clearer decisions about your business.

Having had the opportunity to pause, reflect and adjust this year, we are moving into 2021 as a slightly different company with a slightly different view of the world. We want to be at your side, working in partnership with you to help you navigate your path through the COVID-19 pandemic, Brexit and the many other challenges that are certain to come our way over this coming year.

We want to help your business emerge from this time of crisis stronger. With this goal in mind, we’ve invested more resources in our BUILD, SCALE and ACCELERATE propositions. This will allow us to not only take care of your day-to-day compliance needs, but also to work strategically alongside you to help your business go even further.

Of course, technology is still vitally important but it’s just the enabler. Overlaying all the apps, systems and platforms are our people – they’re what makes the Square Mile difference. Throughout 2021 and beyond, we will continue to stay close to you and ensure we’re giving you the support you need.

What’s new for 2021?

As we embark on a period of growth, we’re recruiting more talented individuals so you may see some new names and faces in the Square Mile team. We’re focusing renewed attention towards looking after our own people, investing in their training and development, ensuring they feel well-looked after and have that all-important sense of purpose.

Like many businesses, when coronavirus struck, we battened down the hatches to keep everyone safe. But, as the months passed, we learned that while home working has many advantages, it can also be quite isolating. Added to which, projects involving creative thinking tend to have better outcomes when we collaborate. So, we’re setting up physical workspaces where we can meet clients and colleagues face-to-face just as soon as it’s safe to do so.

On a completely different note, are you confident you’re using Xero to its full potential? If not, take advantage of the Xero refresher training sessions coming up in February!

Season’s greetings

Your Square Mile team will be enjoying some well-deserved downtime between 24 December and 4 January 2021. We hope you will have the opportunity to recharge your batteries too.

If you’re using the festive period to take stock, why not book a consultation with a member of the Square Mile team in March to discuss where you want to take your business? In the meantime, you might find it helpful to download our Accelerate booklet to kickstart your thought process.

Enjoy the break and here’s to a successful 2021!
